Luke van der Burg
Luke van der Burg graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering with first-class honours, in 2015. Before returning to pursue a higher education, Luke worked in Christchurch, New Zealand, as a structural engineer. During this time, he contributed to projects ranging from the design and construction monitoring of a large regional hospital to the seismic retrofit of iconic heritage buildings.
Luke obtained a Master of Science in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology in 2019 after completing studies at the University of Patras (Greece) and IUSS Pavia (Italy). His postgraduate research included a dissertation on a risk-based evaluation of Direct Displacement-Based Design, under the supervision of Prof. Paolo Bazzurro and Prof. Dimitrios Vamvatsikos.
Since graduating, Luke has worked in Italy as a seismic risk consultant on the vulnerability of timber buildings in California and is currently a researcher and PhD candidate at the IUSS Pavia.
