Didattica integrativa (opzionale) per il corso A del Prof. Moro, "Theoretical Syntax and Neurolinguistics"

Introduction to the theory of clause structure a.y. 2021/22

This class aims at investigating the properties of the syntax of human language. We will address three questions: (i) how does the "mechanism" of grammar work? (ii) how do the words combine in order to create phrases and sentences? (iii) which rules do they follow? A theory of the structure of phrases and sentences will be discussed, from the beginning of the Generative Grammar to the simplification of the Minimalist Program.
It will be discussed the distinction between competence and performance, showing that all human languages share some common properties, despite of the visible differences among them, such as lexicon, word order, etc.
