Issues in neurolinguistics and neuropragmatics (a.a. 2018/19)
Neurolinguistics investigates which linguistic categories are relevant for thebrain, and how they are implemented. As part of neurolinguistics, neuropragmatics focuses on the neural response to the pragmatic aspects of language, such as context-dependent meanings and discourse. The first part of the course will introduce the studentsto the nainapproaches in neurolinguistics research (studies on clinical populations, functional and structural neuroimaging, EEG), illustrating the main achievements in the study of grammatical and lexical aspects of language. The second part will focus on pragmatics, showing the complex interplay of linguistic and cognitive functions involved in processing implicit meanings, and the vulnerability of pragmatic abilities in pathological conditions.
