Neurodegenerative diseases and biomarkers a.y. 2021/22
Programma
This course is aimed at providing basic knowledge on the most common neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, primary progressive aphasia, Lewy body dementia, Parkinson’s disease and parkinsonisms, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and other less common neurodegenerative diseases. Modern experimental research approaches, phenotypical heterogeneity, clinical perspectives and most recent discoveries on gene-environment interactions, epigenetics and molecular biology will be discussed. In this context, the importance of translating basic research findings into clinical applications and biomarker definition for a better early and differential diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases will be emphasized. Relationship between neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation and new treatment venues in the field will be also mentioned.
