Space Hazards - a.y. 2019/20
Programma
Space is a harmful place. Earth is in space and, although its atmosphere efficiently protects us against most space hazards, we are still exposed to some of them. This seminar will present a survey of the main hazards related to Space, ranging from the rare and catastrophic ones, such as big meteorites, which have certainly caused past mass extinctions, to the much more frequent events, such as solar storms, which can badly affect satellites, astronauts and telecommunications. Among them, more exotic phenomena, including gamma rays from distant galaxies and possible visits form outside the Solar System, will also be explored and discussed.
