Environment and health system dynamics with application on COVID-19 emergency management


The course will provide an overview of the dynamic systems approach needed to study comprehensively the interaction between environmental and socioeconomic factors and the intrinsic dynamics of biological systems, which jointly govern the onset and evolution of communicable and non-communicable disease. The course will focus on the main environmental, societal and economic processes underlying the pandemic dynamics so that students may comprehend why and how health threats such as COVID-19 or environmental threats such as climate change evolve over time posing corresponding sanitary risks.  The main idea is that the students would obtain a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of environmental and health systems at different spatial and temporal scales taking into account explicitly the system complexity. After having completed the course, students will be able to develop and run computational tools that help public authorities, the private sector as well as individuals to effectively manage the health risk posed by threats such as COVID-19.
