This curriculum promotes educational and research activities related to the theories, institutions and cultures of sustainability and climate change, favouring a transdisciplinary methodological perspective based on different approaches in the humanities and social sciences, especially in philosophy, literary studies, law and sociology. Particular attention will be devoted to issues related to ontology and ethics; national, European and international juridical regulations; climate, environmental and intergenerational justice; global politics; asymmetries and inequalities in distribution criteria; the ecological humanities and ecocriticism; environmental semiotics and aesthetics; and the interactions between the environment and living beings, also including non-human beings. The overall educational and research objective is to develop theoretical and applicative tools allowing future researchers to face the cognitive and practical challenges posed by sustainability and climate change, with specific reference to the intergenerational pact and the ecological transition, whose importance can no longer be neglected.
The research activities carried out within the curriculum are analytically indicated in the descriptions of the scholarships. They range from representations of un/sustainable societies in narrative, poetry, theatre and media, as well as in social and collective dynamics and practices capable of generating ecological thinking and favouring the empowerment and agency of both individuals and communities, to the ethical, theoretical-political and social implications of the promotion of innovative models of social and economic development; from the perspectives of environmental and post-subjectivist aesthetics related to the Anthropocene era to the legal issues and the regulatory policies connected with the transition to new forms of sustainability, sustainable finance and the management of climate change, also in the perspectives comparative law, economic analysis of law and law in context.
