Andrea Tiengo is associate professor in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS in Pavia. He graduated in Physics and got a PhD in Physics, Astrophysics and Applied Physics at Milan University. He was a research fellow at the XMM-Newton Science Operation Center in Madrid (1999-2001), at the Istitute of Astronomy in Amsterdam (2002) and at the Istituto di Astrofisica Spaziale e Fisica Cosmica (IASF/INAF) in Milan (2003-2011). His main research interests are high-energy astrophysics (study of isolated neutron stars, Galactic X-ray sources in binary systems, X-ray scattering by interstellar dust, gamma-ray bursts and other transient phenomena) as well as the development, managing and calibration of scientific instruments. In particular, he was the Italian program manager of the EPIC instrument on-board the ESA satellite for X-ray astronomy XMM-Newton and contributes to the study of future X-ray and gamma-ray missions. He is Deputy Head of the Department of Science, Technology and Society at the Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS Pavia.
