Erica Gandolfi graduated in Advanced Biotechnology at the University of Pavia with a thesis entitled "Developing of a molecular assay for the detection of microbial contaminants in cosmetics" (June 2021). During the second year of her Master’s degree, she was selected for the Master’s Degree Project Plus, thanks to which she spent part of the 12 months of internship to work in a company that deals with the quality control of cosmetic products and medical devices. During this period she was involved in a collaboration between the company, the University of Pavia and the Institute of Molecular Genetics (Luigi Luca Cavalli – Sforza) of CNR in Pavia. The aim of this collaboration was to develop molecular assays to replace the microbiological tests currently in use, according to ISO standards, in the field of quality control of cosmetics and medical devices. From July 2021 to September 2021 she was a Volunteer Attending at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the CNR in Pavia, in particular at the laboratory of Human Genetics. From October 2021 she is a Phd student in Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology of IUSS at the laboratory of Human Genetics at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the CNR of Pavia.
