Nicolò Damiani got his Master of Science degree (magna cum laude) in Civil Engineering in 2018 at the University of Pavia (Italy), with specialisation in structural engineering. The MSc thesis topic consisted in the elaboration of a new proposal for the application of linear analysis in the seismic verification of masonry buildings, based on the study and prediction of torsional effects. After completing his master’s degree, he worked at the EUCENTRE Foundation, obtaining in the meantime his license as a Civil Engineer. During this period, he worked on the design of masonry structures, developing some proposals for possible modifications to Eurocodes 6 and 8. He then enrolled, in September 2018, in the PhD program in "Understanding and Managing Extremes", curriculum Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (ROSE), at IUSS in Pavia (Italy).
My research activity focuses on the study of possible and innovative retrofit solution for the seismic retrofit of unreinforced masonry buildings. I worked on the design, realization and experimental investigation of two full-scale building specimen with the same geometry, where the second was retrofitted with a light timber-based retrofit solution. Currently, I’m focused on the development of analyitical equations for the design and prediction of the proposed system. Moreover, i'm also working on some numerical models to include the retrofit system in both the in-plane and out-of-plane response of masonry walls.
