Ricardo earned his Civil Eng. Bachelor degree from the University of Ibagué, Colombia in 2015.  In 2018 he obtained his MSc. Degree in Civil Eng., with major in Geotechnics, from Politecnico di Milano, Italy. During 2018 he did a research internship at the Eucentre Foundation, he focused his work on studying the dynamic response of sedimentary basins by performing 1D and 2D wave propagation analysis. On October 2019, after a short period as Junior instructor at the University of Ibagué, he joined  IUSS Understanding and Managing Extremes Phd  programme.
