Biography
PhD Candidate in Understanding and Managing Extremes.
Başar studied Civil Engineering at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Turkey and graduated in 2020. During his studies in METU, Başar worked as an engineering intern at a construction project and at a structural design office in Istanbul, Turkey. Following his bachelor degree, he proceeded with a Master degree programme jointly offered by University School for Advanced Studies, IUSS Pavia and University of Pavia on Civil Engineering for Mitigation of Risk from Natural Hazards, Reduction of Seismic Risk. He obtained his Master’s degree in 2022 and conducted his graduation thesis on the comparison of different damage-to-loss procedures applied to site-specific reinforced concrete moment-resisting frame structures supervised by Prof. Paolo Francesco Bazzurro and Prof. Dimitrios Vamvatsikos. Later on, in October 2022, he enrolled to the PhD programme in Understanding and Managing Extremes (UME) jointly offered by University School for Advanced Studies, IUSS Pavia and University of Pavia.
He is competent on earthquake resistant design of various types of structures and assessment of earthquake risk on a single structure or portfolio of structures based on probabilistic frameworks.
