Aim: Our PhD_Sdc (IUSS Pavia) represents an INNOVATIVE EDUCATIONAL ROADMPAP TO Create a new transdisciplinary approach for studying climate change and the sustainable future. The innovation of study moves towards young people with the ambition to contribute to the evolution of society, towards sustainable models in all aspects, and people who are looking for a transdisciplinary scientific ecosystem to integrate and grow their knowledge, thus becoming pioneers of a green paradigm through the sustainable development goals.

A program in which ideas and methods related to the themes of mitigation and adaptation to climate change, environment, society, technology, economy and health are integrated into a global vision. We propose a broad discussion of the innovative and sustainable reflex society that
knows how to dialogue with the various players in the area through research, institutions, and citizen science.

Partecipants

Roberto Buizza is serving as Scientific Attaché at the Italian Embassy in London, where he supports the work of theItalian diplomacy and leads the embassy scientific activities. He is Full Professor in Physics at ‘Scuola SuperioreSant’Anna’ of Pisa, and is Honorary Research Fellow at Imperial College Grantham Institute for Climate Change. He has a degree in Physics, a PhD in Mathematics, and a Master in Business Administration. From 1991 to 2018 he worked at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, where he was a key developer of its prediction systems, and served as Head of the Predictability Division and Lead Scientist. Since 2018 he has been working at ‘Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna’ of Pisa, where he led a research centre on climate change. Expert in numerical weather prediction, Earthsystem modelling, ensemble methods and predictability, he has more than 240 publications (SCOPUS h-index 48; Web of Science h-index 49; Google Scholar h-index 63; ResearchGate h-index 59).

Mario Martina is the head of the Department of Science, Technology and Society, the coordinator of the inter-university doctoral course on Sustainable Development and Climate Change (PhD - SDC) and full professor in hydrology at the University School for Advanced Studies IUSS Pavia. His research interests include risk modelling for weather-related hazards, applications of risk models in the insurance and re-insurance industry, and assessment of the socio-economic impacts of climate change and disaster risk financing mechanisms.

Chiara Ceseracciu is PhD fellow and a member of the non-governmental, non-profit scientific association DesertNet International. After achieving an MSc in Social Policy and Development at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2019, she has worked in the field of international development cooperation. In November 2021 she started a PhD in Sustainable Development and Climate Change within the Desertification Research Center (NRD) of the University of Sassari. Her research is related to participatory co-researching approaches to address agroenvironmental
sustainability challenges, with a focus on climate change and the governance of water resources in Mediterranean agricultural districts.

Sahba El-Shawa is a Jordanian Canadian interdisciplinary researcher originally from Palestine, with a deep interest in the intersections between space and sustainability. She holds a BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, an MSc in Space Studies from the International Space University and is now pursuing her PhD in Sustainable Development and Climate Change at IUSS Pavia in Italy. Sahba is the Founder of the Jordan Space Research Initiative (JSRI), which aims to bridge sustainable development with space exploration through analog space research.
She co-leads the Space for Climate Action policy division as well as the Ethics and Human Rights team in the Space Generation Advisory Council, and is a National Coordinator in the Moon Village Association’s Participation of Emerging Space Countries program.

Alessandra Sannella is Associate Professor and Delegate of the Rector for Sustainable Development at the University of Cassino. His scientific interests concern the reduction of inequalities in health related to climate change, international migration, health, and global health policies related to sustainable development. He is President of the University Committee for Sustainable Development (CASe), and she is the scientific referent of the International Observatory for Sustainable Development and Global Health 2030 (IOSS 2030) at the University of Cassino. You are currently a member of the Scientific Council of the AIS Section of Sociology of Health and Medicine for the three-year period 2020/2022.
