The meeting coincides with the work of the COMEST UNESCO Working Group dedicated to Climate engineering. This WG is preparing a Report on the topic to be released by Summer 2023. The public meeting in Pavia has a threefold objective: a) to allow the WG to have an opportunity for in-person work (beyond the public event); b) to be an opportunity for growth for PhD students from the Italian national program, which is coordinated precisely by IUSS Pavia (PhD National Program on Sustainable Development and Climate Change); and c) to offer the scientific community an opportunity for discussion with eminent scholars from different countries, who will converge in Pavia as members of the COMEST WG. The issue of climate engineering, within the more general Climate action, is as timely as ever and has been one of the topics addressed by important international documents, such as the IPCC, the Royal Society's and the European Union's DestinE project and more.
