Professor Andrea Moro, Leading the Encounter at the 2024 Science Festival | April 21, 2024, 11:30 AM

The 2024 Science Festival promises to be an extraordinary event, featuring one of the most distinguished figures in the field of linguistics and neuroscience: Professor Andrea Moro, full professor at the IUSS School for Advanced Studies of Pavia. In a session titled "Inventing by Mistake," Moro will bring his extensive experience and innovative perspective to one of the most fascinating aspects of human communication: the relationship between language and error.

Gianni Rodari reminded us that "inventing by mistake," and Moro will demonstrate how linguistic errors are not merely failures, but rather sources of creativity and discovery. This continuous exchange between language and error gives rise to new words, novel constructions, and even fresh perspectives on how we understand the world around us.

Alongside Moro, Giuseppe Antonelli, an eminent historian of the Italian language, will participate, while the event will be moderated by the renowned science journalist and author Silvia Bencivelli. Together, they will explore the rich terrain of words, idioms, and common errors, offering the audience a captivating overview of the wonders of language and the human mind.

The session will take place on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, Auditorium Arte, at 11:30 AM.

Tickets are available starting from only €3.

If it's true that "learning from mistakes," or as Gianni Rodari wrote "inventing by mistake," there exists a continuous and prolific exchange between language and error, where the former can even shape the latter, giving rise to new words and constructions. A relationship that linguistics and neuroscience have much to tell about, as we will discover in this encounter, amidst words, idioms, common errors, and other wonders of language.
