March 8 marks International Women’s Day, a celebration that originated in the early 20th century and was officially recognized by the United Nations in 1977. Over time, this day has become a symbol of the fight for women’s rights and the achievements made, but it is also a moment to raise awareness of the persistent gender disparities that still exist, even in the scientific field. Due to stereotypes and cultural barriers, science is often still perceived as a male-dominated domain.

For this reason, the Neurolinguistics and Experimental Pragmatics Laboratory at the IUSS University School for Advanced Studies in Pavia (https://www.neplab.it) has organized a special event dedicated to young girls. The initiative aims to introduce them to female scientists, engage them in scientific research, and allow them to take part in a real neuroscience experiment.

The experiment, conducted as part of the European project PROMENADE (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101045733), involves recording an electroencephalogram (EEG) during language processing. It is completely safe and provides a live visualization of brain responses.

We invite you to encourage your daughters to participate in this event—an opportunity to be inspired by past and present female scientists, paving the way for the scientists of the future.

The laboratory will be open from 9 AM to 7 PM.

Registration is required. For more information and to book a spot, please contact chiara.battaglini@iusspavia.it.
