Description: The research project conducted by Dr. Porrini aims to investigate sentence structure through an integrated formal and experimental linguistic approach. The main objective is to examine how syntactic and semantic rules, within the framework of generative grammar, interact with pragmatic factors in meaning construction. Particular focus will be placed on the use of functional words, especially in their expletive usage, which continues to pose theoretical and empirical challenges. The research activities will unfold in two phases: a theoretical analysis designed to model sentence structure, and an experimental investigation using innovative techniques such as eye-tracking to study comprehension and production in native speakers, second language (L2) learners, and individuals with linguistic vulnerabilities
