IUSS to Participate in Young – Shape Your Future 2026!
From 12 to 14 November 2026, IUSS University School for Advanced Studies Pavia will participate in YOUNG – Orienta il tuo futuro, taking place at Lariofiere in Erba (Como-Lecco).
The event provides an important opportunity for upper secondary school students who are preparing to choose their educational path after graduation.
At the IUSS School stand, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the School's educational programmes and explore the value of its transdisciplinary approach, which integrates teaching and research, through interactive demonstrations and activities.
Thursday, 12 November – Prof. Giulia Mattavelli
Immersive Neuromodulation: Integrating Virtual Reality, Neurostimulation and Electroencephalography to Study Mental Functions
The aim of this activity is to introduce participants to the objectives and methods of ongoing research in cognitive and clinical neuroscience at the IUSS School. Participants will be involved in a simulated experiment combining non-invasive neurostimulation and the recording of brain activity through electroencephalography (EEG), while watching a 360° video using a virtual reality headset.
Through this experience, participants will gain insight into the connection between technological advances in society and innovations in scientific research. In particular, they will discover how three-dimensional virtual environments can create complex and immersive sensory experiences, track movements during interactions with other individuals, and measure associated changes in brain activity.
Friday, 13 November – Dr. Gianrocco Mucedero
Let's Shake Things Up! Come and Make Structures Tremble with Us!
Earthquakes cause buildings to vibrate, potentially resulting in significant damage, as demonstrated by recent seismic events in Italy and around the world.
Have you ever wondered what really happens to a building when the ground starts shaking? With our portable shaking table, you will be able to see it with your own eyes!
During this hands-on activity, we will simulate an earthquake using a scale model of a building: a small structure made of lightweight materials but designed to represent real buildings.
As the shaking table starts moving, you will observe how the structure responds, where movements are concentrated, and which parts are most vulnerable to damage or collapse.
Although simple, this demonstration will help you understand some of the fundamental principles of earthquake engineering and reflect on the importance of designing earthquake-resistant buildings, especially in a country like Italy.
If you are curious about buildings, enjoy discovering how the world around us works, or want to make a real contribution to people's safety, come and visit our stand!
Watch, explore, discover… and get inspired!
