IUSS CUG-Day 2026: Cultivating Sustainability, Growing Change, 19 November 2026
Environment, people, inclusion and shared responsibility: IUSS CUG-Day returns on 19 November, bringing together ideas and perspectives to help shape a fairer, more sustainable future.
Sustainability is about more than protecting the environment. It is about people, opportunities, the choices we make every day and the future we want to build together.
This broader vision lies at the heart of “Cultivating Sustainability”, the theme of IUSS CUG-Day 2026, taking place on Thursday, 19 November, from 3:00 to 4:30 PM, at Palazzo del Broletto in Pavia.
Organised by the IUSS Single Guarantee Committee (CUG), this year's event expands the conversation to explore the environmental, social and institutional dimensions of sustainability.
Because cultivating sustainability also means creating the conditions for everyone to fulfil their potential and contribute to a more inclusive, aware and responsible academic community.
From commitments to measurable progress: the IUSS Reports
At the heart of the event will be the presentation of two key documents reflecting the University's commitments and future priorities: the IUSS Gender Equality Report, which tracks progress and challenges in promoting equal opportunities, and the IUSS Sustainability Report, which provides an integrated overview of the University's efforts across different dimensions of sustainable development.
Two complementary perspectives, one shared goal: turning values into concrete, measurable action.
Bringing together academia, institutions and society
The discussion will feature leading voices from academia and public institutions.
Speakers will include Enrico Giovannini, Co-founder and Scientific Director of the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS), and Carmine Trecroci, President of the Italian Network of Universities for Sustainable Development (RUS).
The conversation will also extend to the local community with Alessandra Fuccillo, Councillor of the Municipality of Pavia, whose responsibilities include Equal Opportunities, Intercultural Affairs and Relations with Universities.
The event will be introduced by Mario Martina, Rector of IUSS; Chiara Cerami, Vice-Rector for the Enhancement of People and the Academic Community and President of the IUSS Single Guarantee Committee; and Giulia Mattavelli, Vice-Rector for Sustainability and the 2030 Agenda.
#DEIUSS: giving creativity a voice in inclusion
The event will conclude with the #DEIUSS competition awards, an initiative promoted by the IUSS Single Guarantee Committee inviting students to express their perspectives on diversity and inclusion through art and creativity.
A celebration of fresh ideas and new generations, highlighting how meaningful change also begins with the ability to imagine different possibilities.
Cultivating sustainability means planting ideas, nurturing dialogue and growing change. Together.
