The IUSS School for Advanced Studies recognizes its social responsibility to promote and support actions and initiatives that enhance and transfer knowledge, ensuring a significant impact in cultural, social, ethical, environmental, and economic terms.

To advance this mission, IUSS develops, implements, and disseminates processes capable of harnessing new knowledge generated by its researchers, supporting its transformation into research outputs that can drive technological, social, and cultural innovation and create tangible benefits for society.

In particular, the School is committed to addressing the major challenges of our time through an interdisciplinary approach and a strong focus on public–private collaboration, with special attention to three key areas:

• Sustainability and climate change
• Human health and wellbeing
• Space sciences and technologies

In 2020, IUSS established its Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO), now formally recognized as the Business Relations and Impact Unit, tasked with fostering connections between IUSS know-how and research results and the business and market ecosystem, in order to promote the valorization and transfer of knowledge for the benefit of society.

The Business Relations and Impact Unit relies on qualified staff who maintain continuous professional development, including through training programs and networking initiatives with national and international experts in innovation and technology transfer.

IUSS School is also a member of NETVAL, the Italian network for research enhancement, and actively participates in the activities and initiatives promoted by the Joint Technology Transfer Office (JoTTO), which brings together the six Italian Schools for Advanced Studies to strengthen the collective capacity to valorize research in highly specialized fields.
Furthermore, IUSS is a member of ASTP Europe’s Knowledge Transfer Association, engaging with the international community of knowledge and technology transfer professionals to share best practices and foster innovation.
