Si è svolto ieri 15 aprile alle ore 16.00 l'incontro Synthetic Biology and patentability: a US_EU dialogue organizzato dalla SCuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS di Pavia e dal Centro ECLT dell'Università di Pavia, al quale hanno partecipato illustri esponenti del mondo della ricerca scientifica che hanno parlato di cosa sia un'invenzione di biologia sintetica, se la si possa brevettare, e quale sia la disciplina negli Stati Uniti rispetto ai paesi dell’UE.

Negli ultimi anni questa disciplina ha visto una rapida crescita in ricerca e innovazione, rappresentando non solo una frontiera scientifica e culturale, ma anche il centro di interessi economici e giuridici molto importanti. Esperti di livello internazionale, ospiti del Centro di Ricerca Interdipartimentale European Centre for Law, Science and New Technologies (ECLT) dell'Università di Pavia e della Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS di Pavia parleranno della brevettabilità delle invenzioni di biologia sintetica e delle diverse visioni interpretative negli Stati Uniti e in Europa.

Synthetic biology and patentability: a US - EU dialogue
Thursday April 15th, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
University School for Advanced Studies IUSS Pavia and University of Pavia
What is a synthetic biology invention? And can it be patented? How does the discipline change in the United States compared to EU countries? These are some of the questions at the center of the meeting on Synthetic biology, an emerging field of biology that is based on the principles of engineering to create new biological parts, devices or systems, and to redesign or improve natural systems.
In recent years this discipline has grown rapidly in research and innovation, representing not only a scientific and cultural frontier, but also the center of very important economic and legal interests. International experts, guests of the Interdepartmental Research European Center for Law, Science and New Technologies (ECLT) of the University of Pavia and the IUSS University School of Pavia will talk about the patentability of synthetic biology inventions and the different interpretative visions in United States and Europe.
The event, moderated by Prof. Amedeo Santosuosso, will be introduced by Prof. Riccardo Pietrabissa, the Rector of the University School for Advanced Stuies IUSS Pavia.
