The Health Effects of the Global Humanitarian Crisis: Models, Impact, and Simulations, October 27, 2026
On October 27, 2026, Scuola IUSS will host a talk by Davide Rasella exploring the role of statistical and mathematical models in assessing the health impacts of humanitarian crises worldwide.
On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS in Pavia will host a public event entitled "The Health Effects of the Global Humanitarian Crisis: Models, Impact, and Simulations", taking place in Sala del Camino.
The event will feature Davide Rasella, Head of the Global Health Impact Assessment and Evaluation Team (Impacthealth) at the Institute of Collective Health, Federal University of Bahia (Brazil). The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Alessandro Caiani from Scuola IUSS.
The seminar will explore the use of statistical and mathematical models to assess the global health impact of humanitarian aid. An innovative approach combining retrospective impact evaluation models, large-scale microsimulations, and forecasting techniques will be presented to estimate the potential consequences of different future scenarios in terms of human lives.
Particular attention will be paid to the potential health consequences of the closure or dismantling of humanitarian agencies and drastic reductions in funding, especially for vulnerable populations.
The event will provide an opportunity for scientific discussion on the global humanitarian crisis and the role of quantitative methods in understanding and evaluating humanitarian policies and interventions.
