The call for applications offers the following places for the first year of study:

  • 30 places for the first year of the single-cycle or first-level (bachelor’s) program for students of the University of Pavia.
  • 20 places for the first year of the single-cycle or first-level (bachelor’s) program for students of the University of Milan, La Statale.
  • 8 places for the first year of the second-level (master’s) program for students of the University of Pavia.
  • 16 places for the first year of the second-level (master’s) program for students of the University of Milan, La Statale.

The Ordinary Courses offer capable and motivated students advanced and interdisciplinary educational paths that enrich the curricula of the bachelor’s and master’s degree courses at the University of Pavia or the University of Milan, La Statale.

Interdisciplinary is a term we hear more and more often, and not without reason: we live in a dynamic world where it is necessary to manage information and facts without being overwhelmed, and this is the goal of a successful education. Universities, like schools, have the task of helping those who attend to prepare for an increasingly complex world (including the job market), and to do this, it is crucial to consider this word, interdisciplinary, learning to develop transversal skills, open-mindedness, and creativity.

IUSS is the School of Advanced Studies that every year offers a unique opportunity to students attending the bachelor’s or master’s degree courses at the University of Pavia or the University of Milan, La Statale. They can follow a parallel and complementary educational path consisting of integrative courses, seminars, and workshops, where they learn to approach problems from new and innovative perspectives compared to the traditional university studies.

Admission to the IUSS Ordinary Courses in Pavia is exclusively available through enrollment in legally recognized and accredited merit-based university colleges by the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR), including Almo Collegio Borromeo, Collegio Ghislieri, Collegio Santa Caterina da Siena, Collegio Nuovo, and the university colleges of the Entity for the Right to Study (EDISU) in Pavia, particularly Collegio Volta and Collegio Cairoli (recognized as a merit college), and for the University of Milan, Collegio di Milano.

Students of the Ordinary Courses belong, according to the degree or master’s degree course attended at the University of Pavia, to two academic classes: the class of Human and Life Sciences, divided into the fields of Human Sciences and Biomedical Sciences, and the class of Science, Technology, and Society, divided into the fields of Science and Technology and Social Sciences.

The Ordinary Courses focus on thematic cycles that reflect the school's peculiarities and ability to attract resources. From climate change and sustainability, to natural hazards and their mitigation, from cognitive neuroscience to neurolinguistics, to the philosophy of mind, from astronomy to astrophysics, with the aim of creating an integrated vision of the world and enabling students to face the complexity and major challenges of the future with awareness.

IUSS grants each student an annual study contribution of EUR 5,000.00 for the cost of residential college accommodation. The University of Pavia guarantees exemption from university fees for the entire course of study.

The University of Milan recognizes total exemption from university fees for the entire duration of the course of study for successful applicants, along with a study award amounting to EUR 1,500.00 for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Applications must be submitted exclusively online on the school's website ((https://www.iusspavia.it/it/formazione/corsi-ordinari/ammissione) by Friday, August 30, 2024, at 12:00 PM.

Participation in the competition is free of charge.
