On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS of Pavia, the University celebrates The Book, a universal symbol of knowledge, innovation, and human progress. The event pays tribute to the revolutionary role of the book throughout human history and its value as an irreplaceable tool for study, research, and higher education in a society looking confidently to the future.

The celebration marks a key opportunity to reaffirm the role of the university as a driver of change and growth, inspired by responsibility, autonomy, vision, participation, and openness.

During the morning, prominent voices from the academic and cultural world will offer a personal and thematic interpretation of The Book, expressing its meaning through diverse, symbolic, and contemporary perspectives:

  • Andrea Moro – The Visionary Book
  • Silvia De Toffoli – The Undisciplined Book
  • Ivano Dionigi – The Invincible Book
  • Maria Cristina Messa – The Book of the Body
  • Marzia Staicu and Francesco Tosini – The Final Chapter

A solemn moment will enrich the celebration with the conferral of the Honorary Doctorate in “The Hadron Academy: Risk and Complexity in High-Tech Medical Innovation” to Prof. Maria Cristina Messa, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the field of high-tech medical innovation.

The morning session will conclude with the outgoing Rector, Riccardo Pietrabissa, presenting his end-of-term report and symbolically handing over to the newly elected Rector, Mario Martina, who will outline the strategic vision for the future of IUSS.

The afternoon, starting at 3:00 PM, will focus on the heart of the academic community:

  • Presentation of the PhD programmes of the EFC Project Schools
  • Graduate Talks by alumni of the IUSS Undergraduate Programmes
  • Diploma Ceremony for graduates of the IUSS Undergraduate Programmes

A day of celebration, reflection, and vision that honors tradition and renews IUSS’s commitment to intellectual and human advancement, through the education of future generations of thinkers and innovators.
