Project Objectives
IMPaKT aims to build a structured, timely, and effective system to identify inventions emerging from researchers at the IUSS School at an early stage and guide them toward appropriate protection and commercialization pathways. The project includes strengthening the Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO) through the addition of three qualified professionals (one Innovation Promoter and two Knowledge Transfer Managers), as well as initiatives focused on protecting research results, defining contractual templates, policies, and internal regulations on intellectual property, and promoting an entrepreneurial culture among PhD students and early-career researchers through events and training programs.
A central objective is also to intensify dialogue with businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Pavia area through targeted meetings and participation in industry trade fairs, with the goal of connecting academic expertise to market needs.
The IUSS School will make its legal, economic, and technical-scientific expertise available to companies to identify research pathways worthy of development, help businesses protect intellectual property, and foster connections between research and business needs, including matchmaking activities across different industries and entrepreneurial organizations.
In summary, the overall objective of the IMPaKT project is to establish knowledge transfer as a core mission of the IUSS School, grounded in the pillars of innovation, impact, and value, in order to maximize the local benefits and real-world outcomes of research results.
