IUSS Philosophy Workshop

L&PIC - Linguistics & Philosophy IUSS Center.
Epistemology and Philosophy of Mathematics

Mathematical Concepts: Analysis, Definitions and Explications
Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS Pavia - www.iusspavia.it

June 5-6, 2025

The workshop, hosted on June 5-6 by the Linguistics & Philosophy Center at the School of Advanced Studies IUSS Pavia, will explore ongoing research related to a variety of methods traditionally involved in conceptual clarification of logico-mathematical concepts, in the foundations of mathematics and, more generally, in logical and mathematical theorizing: conceptual analysis, explicit and implicit definitions, and explications.
The workshop is organized in collaboration with the Scuola di Studi Superiori Ferdinando Rossi (SSST) of the University of Turin, and is funded by the EFC—Educating Future Citizens initiative, a network of higher education schools supported by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The initiative aims to enhance guidance and advanced training activities and offer new opportunities to high school, university and doctoral students. It is also part of the activities of the PRIN National Project PUMa: Proof and Understanding in Mathematics. Purity of Methods, Simplicity, and Explanation in Mathematical Reasoning (Funded by the European Union - Next Generation EU).
