Understanding how we think, reason, and communicate requires crossing disciplinary boundaries. The PhD in The Human Mind and its Explanations: Language, Brain, and Reasoning (HuME) is jointly offered by the IUSS School for Advanced Studies Pavia, the University of Milan, and the Scuola Normale Superiore, bringing together different perspectives to investigate some of the most fundamental questions about the human mind.

The programme combines expertise in philosophy, cognitive science, logic, linguistics, and neuroscience, creating an interdisciplinary research environment focused on language, thought, and cognition.

Through advanced research activities, international collaborations, and the integration of theoretical and empirical approaches, HuME prepares the next generation of scholars to address complex questions at the intersection of the humanities and cognitive sciences.
