Pavia is a real "campus city", with a network of university colleges and structures for study and research which is unique in Italy.

With its system of university colleges (12 public and 4 private recognized by the Ministry), the presence of its historic University, IUSS University School for Advanced Studies, national and international health facilities of excellence (Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo, the IRCCS Maugeri Scientific Clinical Institutes and the Mondino Foundation, the National Center for Oncological Hadrontherapy - CNAO) and the European Center for Training and Research in Seismic Engineering, the Eucentre Foundation, Pavia is characterized as a city where students grow together, share ideas and projects, make use of modern and efficient structures, and cutting-edge laboratories where you can deepen and experiment with studies and research through innovative and technologically advanced paths.

Pavia is a city rich in history and charm, which very well preserves the ancient splendors of the past. Illustrious characters have passed through here: Ugo Foscolo, Alessandro Volta, Ada Negri, Camillo Golgi, Lazzaro Spallanzani, Maria Teresa of Austria, and many others.

In this stimulating and creative context, IUSS School works in close synergy with all the components of the Pavia and Lombardy university system.

IUSS is a small and young scientific and cultural community that has given itself a mission to be pursued with autonomy and responsibility: to contribute to building the future through education in values, complexity, awareness, in-depth study and with the continuous commitment to understand nature, man and society.

IUSS recognizes the particular educational role of university colleges and creates its own advanced form of institutional participation of the Pavia colleges in their training and research processes, considering this participation a characterizing and distinctive element of the Institute within the framework of Italian Superior Graduate Schools.

Thanks to this specific collaboration, IUSS can also ensure a qualified residency for its teaching and research activities.

The following have been institutional holdings of the Institute since its establishment: the Almo Collegio Borromeo, the Ghislieri College, the Nuovo College - Sandra and Enea Mattei Foundation, the S. Caterina da Siena University College Foundation and the managing body for the Right to University Education (EDISU).
