The call for applications for admission to the National PhD Program in Science and Technology for Advanced Therapies (STAT) – 42nd Cycle, Academic Year 2026/2027, coordinated by Professor Annalisa Bonfiglio, has been published.

The three-year program has been designed to train a new generation of highly qualified researchers in the field of advanced therapies, capable of combining basic research, technological innovation, and clinical application.

In a context characterized by the rapid evolution of technologies applied to healthcare, life sciences, and biomedicine, the PhD program provides interdisciplinary expertise integrating medicine, biophysics, bioengineering, and biotechnology, preparing researchers to address the scientific and technological challenges of the future.

Promoted by the IUSS School for Advanced Studies Pavia in collaboration with Fondazione Telethon, the University of Pavia, and Fondazione CNAO, the program is developed within an ecosystem of excellence that integrates scientific, technological, and biomedical expertise, fostering research and the development of innovative solutions for human health.

The Three Curricula

The educational pathway is structured into three specialized curricula:

CU1 – Hadron Therapy and Advanced Biophysical Therapies

Dedicated to the study and development of non-pharmacological therapeutic technologies based on biophysical and bioengineering approaches, with particular focus on hadron therapy, advanced biomedical instrumentation, and the clinical applications of emerging technologies.

CU2 – Gene and Cell Therapies

Focused on the design, development, and clinical application of innovative gene and cell therapies, with the goal of creating new therapeutic strategies for genetic diseases and complex disorders.

CU3 – Biomolecular and Biotechnological Sciences

Oriented toward experimental research in biomolecular sciences and biotechnology, integrating disciplines such as structural biology, medicinal and bioinorganic chemistry, molecular microbiology, neuropharmacology, and molecular hematology.

The PhD program is fully aligned with the strategic priorities outlined in Italy’s National Research Program (PNR) and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), contributing to the strengthening of Italian research in key areas such as biotechnology, precision medicine, and advanced therapies.
