
PhD candidate in Earthquake Engineering.
Ataklti Gebrehiwet Gebrekidan is a passionate and ambitious Ph.D. candidate in Earthquake Engineering at University School for Advanced Studies (IUSS) in Pavia. With a deep-rooted interest in dynamic analysis, structural design, soil structure interaction and foundation engineering, he is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of knowledge and making significant contributions to his research project titled multi-hazard assessment and sustainable retrofitting of ageing buildings and bridges.
He earned his B.Sc. in civil engineering with gold medal award in 2015 and his M.Sc. in civil engineering (geotechnical engineering) in 2018 at Mekelle University, Ethiopia. He has teaching and leadership experience in the Mekelle University and he served as Lecturer from 2015 to 2023, and he also worked as Head of Geotechnical and Material Engineering Chair for two years, starting in 2022. Additionally, Ataklti has served as an advisor and co-advisor to numerous Bachelor's and Master's students respectively, offering invaluable mentorship and guidance. Beyond his teaching responsibilities, Ataklti has actively engaged in a multitude of research and consultancy projects, leveraging his expertise as a civil engineer, geotechnical engineer and co-investigator. Ataklti's diverse experiences have equipped him with a comprehensive skill set and a deep understanding of the complexities of Earthquake Engineering.
