Biography

I am Daniele Menghini, a PhD candidate in Science and Technology of Advanced Therapies. Based in Professor Anna Cereseto’s Advanced Genome Editing Technologies laboratory at CIBIO (Trento), my research focuses on the evolution and optimization of genome editing tools.
I earned my Master’s in Cellular and Molecular Biotechnology from the University of Trento, where
I established a robust technical foundation in molecular biology, directed evolution, and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). My previous research in the AGET lab focused on optimizing hypercompact Cas variants using specialized eukaryotic selection platforms to enhance genome editing efficiency.
Currently, my PhD project is dedicated to the discovery, characterization, and improvement of Large
Serine Recombinases (LSRs) from human microbiome. I aim to refine these enzymes to enable highly efficient and site-specific gene integration within genomic safe harbors, advancing the development of safer, more precise molecular therapies.
