Biography

"Giovanni Maga Scholarship" funded by the National Research Council (CNR-IGM)

My name is Emanuele Bonenti. I hold a bachelor degree in Biotechnology from the University of Bologna and a master degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Pavia. During my studies, I had the opportunity to carry out my thesis internship at the IGM-CNR, where I first became involved in the project that I will now continue to develop during my PhD. Thanks to the IUSS PhD fellowship, “Mechanisms controlling nuclear integrity and gene expression,” I will be able to pursue this research path in the same laboratory, further deepening and expanding the work I have already begun.
The project focuses on the protein TSPYL2, which is known for its role in the DNA damage response and in the regulation of the cell cycle. However, its potential functions in the nucleolus remain poorly understood. The main goal of the project is to more precisely define how TSPYL2 may contribute to nucleolar architecture, ribosome biogenesis, and the nucleolar stress response, particularly in relation to p53, a key protein in the regulation of cellular stress. In other words, we aim to clarify whether TSPYL2 may act as a mediator between these processes, thereby contributing to the maintenance of nucleolar homeostasis.
