PhD candidate in THE HADRON ACADEMY: Risk and complexity in high tech medical innovation.
My name is Simona Aresta and I am from Puglia. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Medical Systems Engineering and a Master's degree in Bioengineering at the Polytechnic of Bari. During my university studies and afterwards, I attended a training period at the Public Health Assessment Unit of the ‘IRCCS Saverio de Bellis’ hospital in Castellana Grotte (BA), during which I was involved in biomechanical data acquisition through the use of optoelectronic systems and wearable devices, signal analysis, and implementation of Artificial Intelligence models. Subsequently, I worked as a research fellow at the Polytechnic of Bari, analyzing big healthcare data with AI algorithms to study physical frailty in the elderly population. Later, at the IRCCS Maugeri in Bari, I deepened the biomechanical analysis in patients with Parkinson's Disease and Deep Brain Stimulation. I also developed skills in Natural Language Processing in combination with AI to support diagnosis. Currently, my work focuses on the use of AI for big data analysis in healthcare, with a focus on neurodegenerative and oncological diseases. As a PhD student, my goal is to develop AI models to support early diagnosis, prognosis, and personalization of treatments, contributing innovative solutions to research and precision medicine.
