Biography
PhD candidate in Theoretical and Experimental Linguistics.
Sofia Neri obtained her bachelor's degree from the Department of Interpreting and Translation (formerly SSLMIT) at the University of Bologna. Subsequently, she continued her academic journey focusing on linguistics at the University of Siena, enrolling in the "Language and Mind: Linguistics and Cognitive Studies" program.
She completed her master's degree in 2023 with a thesis in computational linguistics, in which she delved into certain aspects of epistemic reasoning in neural architecture-based linguistic models. The title of her thesis was "On Theory of Mind 'Emergent' Abilities of LLMs: Benchmarking Epistemic/Doxastic Reasoning," and it was conducted under the guidance of Professor Stefano Guidi, with Professor Cristiano Chesi as a co-supervisor. The research focused on understanding how neural linguistic models develop and emulate epistemic and doxastic reasoning capabilities.
