Biography

PhD candidate in Earthquake Engineering.

My name is Zainab Asaad, and I am a Lebanese civil engineer who graduated in 2021 from the Lebanese University, majoring in public works. My studies covered various structures, and my graduation project involved redesigning a bridge to accommodate additional traffic lanes.
In 2023-2024, I pursued an M2 Research Master’s program on natural risks and hazards through a convention between the Lebanese University and Université Grenoble Alpes in France. This marked my academic shift from general civil engineering studies to specializing in earthquake engineering and seismic hazard. During my internship, I conducted a PSHA case study for an original fault model in Java, Indonesia to assess its contribution to seismic hazard in the area.
Growing up in the Middle East, a region prone to significant earthquakes, I am dedicated to research that strengthens community resilience and safety. I am now excited to continue my work in this field through the ROSE doctoral program at IUSS and to collaborate with the hazard team at GEM in accordance with my scholarship, furthering my commitment to impactful research.
