Anna Marmodoro University of Durham/University of Oxford IUSS Visiting Scholar
Professor Marmodoro is an international researcher with two main areas of specialization: analytical metaphysics on the one hand, and history of philosophy on the other. In metaphysics, he was involved in mereology; fundamentalism; composition and structure; properties (dispositions and causal powers); relationships; causality. In the field of the history of philosophy he proposed new philosophical interpretations of different authors ranging from Anaxagoras, Plato, Aristotee, the Stoics, Plotinus etc. She is the author of important international contributions: monographs published by Oxford University Press, curators published by Oxford and Cambridge University Press; and articles in international journals A. She received research funding totalling £2,700,000 from the European Research Council, the Templeton World Charity Foundation, the Leverhulme Trust, and the Arts and Humanities Research Council. She is the founder and co-editor of Dialogoi magazine. Ancient Philosophy Today, published by Edinburgh University Press, aims to create a forum for dialogue between scholars of ancient and contemporary philosophy.
In the seminars he will hold at IUSS, he will present and discuss a selection of metaphysical problems he deals with in his new book (considered by Oxford University Press): causal powers, relationships, instantiation, emergency. These themes are set against the background of various lines of research pursued at the IUSS.
