Introduction by: Andrea Moro – Full Professor of General Linguistics, IUSS Pavia
Noam Chomsky is undoubtedly the most famous linguist in the world, not only for his ideas on language and the human mind—which have also attracted the interest of philosophers, psychologists, and biologists—but above all for his numerous books and articles (possibly even more than those on linguistics) addressing both U.S. domestic politics and international affairs.
A common thread in his work as both a linguist and a political activist is a rigorous rationalism, explicitly inspired by the traditions of the Enlightenment.
The seminar will therefore focus both on his linguistic theories, examining their early and more recent stages, and on his political ideas and analyses, illustrated through some of his more or less recent interventions in these areas.
