Workshop “Communicating Risks: Health, Environment, and Climate Change”
March 9, 2026 – 9:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS Pavia, Sala del Camino
This workshop explores how theoretical models of risk perception and decision-making, together with narrative strategies and communicative practices—including metaphor—shape our current understanding of health- and environment-related risks.
Bringing together scholars from philosophy, linguistics, narratology, experimental pragmatics, and communication studies, the event offers a strongly interdisciplinary perspective on how such risks are conceptualized, communicated, and ultimately addressed.
The workshop is organized by a joint committee of linguists from the Laboratorio di Neurolinguistica e Pragmatica Sperimentale (NEPLab) and philosophers from IUSS, with the involvement of PhD candidates from the programs in Sustainable Development and Climate Change (SDC) and The Human Mind and its Explanations: Language, Brain and Reasoning (HuME).
The organizing committee includes Maddalena Bressler, Alessandro Guerra, Luca Bischetti, Luca Zanetti, Valentina Bambini, and Andrea Sereni.
