Friday, December 20, 2019, at the Berlucchi classroom of the IRCCS Fondazione Mondino in Pavia (Via Mondino, 2), prof. Adriano Aguzzi will hold the lecture entitled "The peculiar, fascinating biology of mammalian prions".
Prof. Aguzzi was awarded the XXX Ottorino Rossi Award for his significant research on the neurobiology of prions and in general on the spreading mechanisms of pathological proteins in neurodegenerative phenomena. Prof. Aguzzi, originally from Pavia, is Director of the Institute of Neuropathology at the University of Zurich.
Following, in line with this topic, will be held the congress "Spreading the bad news: an update on the role of pathological proteins in neurodegenerative diseases" which will be divided into three thematic sessions: Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Amyotrophic spectrum Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD).
Each session will host three "lectures" held by recognized experts in the field: pre-clinical aspects (mechanisms), clinical correlates, molecular imaging of the spread of pathological proteins specific to different conditions.
