Programme published for the key event in seismic engineering
The official programme of the 9th International Nigel Priestley Seminar is now available. The event will take place on 29–30 May 2025 at the Cardinal Agostino Riboldi College in Pavia.
Organised by the Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS of Pavia and the ROSE doctoral programme (Risk and Optimal Structural Engineering), in collaboration with the Eucentre Foundation and the University of Pavia, the seminar is recognised as a major international scientific event dedicated to sustainable structural design and seismic risk mitigation.
Keynote Lecture: Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Design
A central moment in the programme will be the Keynote Lecture delivered by Professor Alessandra Marini (University of Bergamo), titled:
"Shaping the Sustainability Transition: Challenges for Conceptual Structural Design".
The lecture will address the emerging challenges of structural design in the context of ecological transition and urban resilience.
Two Days of Advanced Training, Research and International Networking
The Nigel Priestley Seminar offers a unique opportunity for doctoral students, alumni, researchers and professionals to engage in dialogue on the most recent advances in seismic engineering research.
Topics covered in the seminar sessions will include:
- Innovation in structural materials and technologies
- Strategies for reducing seismic vulnerability
- Advanced structural behaviour modelling
- Integrated approaches to urban safety and sustainability
The event provides a platform for exchange between generations of researchers, international experts, and academic and professional communities, further strengthening the role of IUSS Pavia as a centre of excellence in advanced education and seismic risk research.
Through presentations by ROSE doctoral candidates and contributions from high-profile professionals, the seminar reaffirms itself as a reference international forum for scientific and technological progress in seismic engineering.
