From March 25 to 27, 2026, the Seasonal School “Which encyclopedias and libraries for the future. Tools for research, scientific, cultural and political production and communication” will take place in Bologna. The initiative is dedicated to the role of knowledge institutions in contemporary society.
Among the invited speakers is Andrea Moro, linguist, member of the Accademia dei Lincei, and professor at the IUSS School for Advanced Studies in Pavia and the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa. He will deliver a lecture focused on the value of the library as a physical space for discovery and intellectual development.
In his talk, entitled “The Book Next Door. ‘A library is a place where it rains inside’”, Moro will reflect on the experience of research among library shelves—places where the proximity of books can generate unexpected discoveries and open new paths of study, sometimes more meaningful than those originally sought.
The Seasonal School brings together scholars from various disciplines to discuss the transformations of knowledge organization tools, from encyclopedias to digital systems of archiving and research. It addresses themes related to the production and circulation of knowledge in the contemporary world.
The program includes lectures and discussion sessions focused on the relationship between libraries, archives, museums, and new technologies, with the aim of exploring how these tools can evolve to meet the needs of research, scientific communication, and cultural and civic life.
