Andrea Taramelli, National Delegate for Copernicus and Full Professor at IUSS Pavia, featured on Rai Radio1: data, innovation and young people at the heart of the climate challenge.

On 29 May, Prof. Andrea Taramelli, Italy’s National Delegate to the European User Forum of the Copernicus Programme and faculty member at IUSS School for Advanced Studies Pavia, was a guest on the Rai Radio1 program “Il pomeriggio di Radio1” to discuss one of the most pressing issues of our time: climate change and the strategic role of Earth observation.

During the interview, Prof. Taramelli highlighted how Copernicus Programme has become one of the world’s most advanced tools for monitoring the environment, understanding the evolution of climate-related phenomena, and supporting informed decision-making for institutions, local communities and citizens.

Among the key topics discussed:

  • Europe’s leading role in the global Earth observation system through Copernicus;
  • The importance of reliable data and services for developing effective climate adaptation strategies;
  • New opportunities arising from the integration of Artificial Intelligence, Geospatial Intelligence and the extensive information assets generated by Copernicus;
  • The need to make scientific information increasingly accessible and understandable in order to support informed decision-making;
  • The strategic value of educating younger generations and fostering interdisciplinary skills to address future challenges.

The interview also emphasized the contribution that research and higher education can make in connecting scientific innovation, technological development and social impact.
