What are the limits of artificial intelligence, and what still distinguishes machines from the human brain?

Andrea Moro, Professor of General Linguistics at the Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS in Pavia, will speak on 18 October at Collegio Borromeo as part of the conference “Merit and Mediocrity in the Age of AI.”

As reported by La Provincia Pavese, Moro draws attention both to the energy impact of artificial intelligence systems and to the fundamental differences between human and machine learning. Language is at the heart of his argument: while the human brain acquires language through biological processes and specific constraints, AI models process vast amounts of data using statistical methods.

The event will also feature Maria Chiara Carrozza, professor at the University of Milano-Bicocca and former Italian Minister of Education, University and Research, who will speak on “Humanoid Robots or Embodied AI?”

The conference offers an opportunity to explore not only what artificial intelligence can do, but also what continues to distinguish human intelligence from machines.
