The new IUSS Doctoral School has been established, marking a significant development in the doctoral offerings of the School. This development is characterized by an expansion of the programs offered and the initiation of new educational models, including the National SDC Doctorate.

Concerning the Doctoral School, the aim is to embark on a new experience, characterized not so much as a formal coordination hub for the various doctoral paths but rather as a propulsive and innovative context for creating new transversal educational opportunities. This is achieved by capitalizing on the flexibility of the University Schools for Advanced Studies to design and experiment with new training and research realities.

The IUSS Doctoral School has a dual objective: to enrich the training of IUSS doctoral candidates within a unified framework of transdisciplinary skills and cultural foundations and to enhance the recognition of the IUSS doctoral model, contributing to strengthening its identity.

The inaugural meeting of the Doctoral School is part of a series of events, "A Lesson in…," involving eminent international scholars who can contribute to presenting examples of scientific research in various fields. The format is accessible to doctoral candidates with diverse backgrounds.

The guest for the opening event of the School's series will be Prof. Pietro Pietrini from IMT, Lucca, who will deliver a lecture on the topic of Forensic Psychiatry: "A Lesson in … Forensic Psychiatry" on January 29 at 11:00 AM at the School's headquarters (Palazzo del Broletto, Piazza della Vittoria, 15, Pavia).
