We are pleased to announce that Besim Yükselen, PhD student at the ROSE School Pavia | IUSS – Scuola Universitaria Superiore di Pavia, has been awarded at the 1st EOS OpenSees Research and Innovation Awards 2025, promoted by the Eurasian OpenSees Association (EOS) to celebrate excellence in research, development, and innovative applications in structural and geotechnical engineering through the OpenSees platform.
In his research project, developed under the supervision of Prof. Ricardo Monteiro and Dr. Gianrocco Mucedero, Besim created CAD2Sees, an open-source Python tool that enables users to generate numerical models and analyze three-dimensional reinforced concrete buildings with OpenSeesPy, directly from CAD files containing geometric and material properties.
Alongside this development, the research also introduces an innovative approach to improving the seismic safety of existing reinforced concrete buildings, integrating numerical simulation tools with intelligent multi-objective optimization algorithms capable of balancing intervention costs, environmental impact, expected annual losses, and downtime.
Thanks to this recognition, Besim Yükselen will participate free of charge in the 7th EOS Conference 2026, which will take place at EPFL, Lausanne, from 5 to 7 July 2026.
