On Wednesday, 30 September, starting at 10:30 a.m., the Opening Ceremony of the 2026/2027 Academic Year of the Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS will take place at Palazzo del Broletto (Piazza della Vittoria 15, Pavia). The highlight of the day will be the Lectio magistralis by Chiara Cerami, entitled “The Frontiers of Ageing in the Digital Era”.
Following the welcome of participants, the ceremony will officially begin at 11:00 a.m. with the performance of the Italian and European anthems.
Institutional greetings will be followed by “The University at the Frontier”, an address by Rector Mario Martina, and contributions from representatives of the different groups within the IUSS community: Hanny Santos Eufrasio, representative of the technical and administrative staff; Savino Fumarulo, representative of PhD students; and Giulia De Lorenzi, student representative.
The central event of the ceremony will be the Lectio magistralis “The Frontiers of Ageing in the Digital Era”, delivered by Chiara Cerami, Associate Professor of Neurology. The lecture will provide an opportunity to reflect on the transformations associated with ageing and the new perspectives emerging in the digital era.
This will be followed by “Signs of Change”, an address by Vice-Rector for Communication Giulia Piredda.
Rector Mario Martina will then officially declare the 2026/2027 Academic Year open. The ceremony will conclude with a performance of Da nobis pacem by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, followed by a reception at 1:00 p.m.

The ceremony will feature performances by the Ghislieri University Choir and University Ensemble.
