From 22 to 26 June 2026, the Summer Orientation School (SOE) of the IUSS School for Advanced Studies in Pavia returns, offering a free residential program for fourth-year high school students. The initiative is designed to support students in their future university choices through workshops, lectures, discussions, and interactive activities.
This year’s program will provide a stimulating cultural and scientific experience, connecting students’ school education with new perspectives in higher education and research.
Participants will explore the interdisciplinary educational model of the IUSS School, with a strong focus on the dialogue between scientific and humanistic disciplines. Topics will range from cognitive neuroscience to astrophysics, climate science to earthquake engineering, law to artificial intelligence, linguistics to risk management, and philosophy to logic. Activities will include lectures, laboratories, and hands-on sessions aimed at fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and research skills.
The program will be led by faculty members and researchers from the IUSS School, with contributions from partner institutions within the Educating Future Citizens network and professors from the University of Pavia.
Participation is free of charge and includes accommodation, meals, and all scheduled activities. Selected students will visit Pavia’s Colleges of Merit — Almo Collegio Borromeo, Collegio Ghislieri, Collegio Santa Caterina da Siena, and Collegio Nuovo – Fondazione Sandra e Enea Mattei — and will stay in one of them during the program.
A total of 40 students will be selected. Applications are open until 6 June 2026 and must be submitted through the online application form, including all required information and documentation.
The official and final program will be published in the coming weeks on the dedicated IUSS Orienta section of the IUSS School website.
