Applications are now open for the new edition of the Winter School “Digital Rights: Theory and Practice”, taking place from 25 to 29 January 2027 at Venice International University (VIU), on the Island of San Servolo in Venice.
The Winter School offers an interdisciplinary programme focusing on rights in the digital age and on the transformations that artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are bringing about in society, law and democratic institutions.
The programme addresses a range of highly topical issues, including artificial intelligence and fundamental rights, data governance, the power of digital platforms, algorithmic discrimination, the rule of law and democracy in the age of AI, as well as the latest developments in digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
The Winter School faculty includes Amedeo Santosuosso, Professor at the Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS di Pavia, whose research focuses on the interplay between law, science and emerging technologies, with particular attention to the legal and social implications of technological innovation.
The faculty brings together scholars from several Italian and European universities, including the University of Padua, University of Milano-Bicocca, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, KU Leuven, University of Lausanne, Sapienza University of Rome and University of Deusto.
The Winter School is designed for Master’s students interested in pursuing doctoral studies and PhD candidates in the fields of law, human rights, international relations, political science, philosophy and sociology.
The programme will combine theoretical lectures, practical sessions, seminars, round tables and workshops, encouraging dialogue across different disciplines and approaches. 20 places are available. Participants who successfully complete the programme will receive a certificate of attendance, and the Winter School awards 2 ECTS credits.
