
All set for the written exams of the admission competition to the Undergraduate Courses of the IUSS University School of Advanced Studies in Pavia, reserved for students of the University of Pavia and the University of Milan (La Statale).
This year, for students enrolling at the University of Pavia, the competition will be held in a unified and joint format with the Historical Colleges of the city: Almo Collegio Borromeo, Collegio Ghislieri, Collegio Nuovo – Fondazione Sandra ed Enea Mattei, and Fondazione Collegio Universitario Santa Caterina da Siena.
The exams will begin on Thursday, 4 September 2025, at 9:30 AM at Palazzo San Tommaso (Piazza del Lino 2, entrance from Via Siro Comi 55, Pavia).

The 2025 edition confirms the growing appeal of the IUSS School. This year, participation applications have increased significantly: +30% for the single-cycle/three-year program and +15% for the two-year program, marking a real boom of interest in the Undergraduate Courses of the IUSS University University School of Advanced Studies.
Students from Pavia and Milan
The competition is open to students planning to enroll at the University of Pavia or the University of Milan (La Statale):
- Pavia: Access to the Undergraduate Courses is linked to enrollment in one of the city’s Historical Colleges, with all the benefits of residential life and a scholarship of €5,000 per year.
- Milan: Access to the Undergraduate Courses is subject to admission to the Milan College, either as a resident or non-resident student. Winners receive:
- Full exemption from tuition fees for the entire study program;
- Scholarship of €1,500 for the academic year 2025-2026;
- Accommodation at subsidized costs.
Structure of the Undergraduate Courses
The IUSS Undergraduate Courses are organized into three pathways:
- Single-cycle program: six years for Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics; five years for Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology;
- Three-year first-level program;
- Two-year second-level program.
All educational activities, seminars, and laboratories are offered free of charge.
Available Places
First year of single-cycle or three-year first-level program:
- Pavia: 30 places
- Milan: 16 places
First year of the two-year second-level program:
- Pavia: 8 places
- Milan: 20 places
Admission is through a public competition, consisting of:
- Two written and two oral exams (for the single-cycle/three-year program);
- Evaluation of qualifications and an interview (for the two-year program).

Written Exams
The written exams will take place in person on Thursday, 4 September 2025, from 9:30 AM at Palazzo San Tommaso in Pavia.
Each candidate will face two tasks:
- The first on a subject characteristic of the competition class/area;
- The second on a different subject, freely chosen among those proposed by the Examination Board.
Oral Exams
The oral exams will be held from Friday, 12 September 2025, online via Microsoft Teams, and will cover the subjects chosen for the written exams.
Evaluation of Qualifications and Interview (Two-Year Program)
The list of candidates admitted to the interview will be published in the “Competitions, Calls, and Selections – Student Calls” section of the School’s website by Monday, 15 September 2025. Admitted candidates will receive communication with the date and time of their interview.
Degrees Awarded
Students who complete the program and graduate at Pavia or Milan will simultaneously receive:
- Single-cycle degree diploma;
- Three-year first-level degree diploma;
- Two-year second-level degree diploma.
The single-cycle degree diploma and the two-year second-level degree diploma are equivalent to a second-level Master’s degree.
