Only a few weeks after the birth of the International Center on Law, Science and New Technologies (ICLT), IUSS Pavia and CodeX – The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics reached an affiliation agreement to join their efforts. IUSS Pavia is now affiliate of the Insurance Initiative established within the US university. The goal is to make the computational method applied to law a suitable tool for an ever-growing level of automation in the insurance contracts, so that the beneficial consequences of that approach can be perceived by all the actors involved. Through a continuous dialogue, the teams will have confrontations exactly on the theme of computable contracts, which is a complex topic due to its nature of juridical instrument and product of computer science. In that context, it is set to be fruitful the intersection between the experience gained within the Insurance Initiative thanks to the tight link with the multinational company AXA and the inputs that the team of Pavia – guided by Professor Amedeo Santosuosso with the cooperation of Dr. Beatrice Marone – will be able to propose on the basis of the Italian tradition in the legal, technical and insurance field.
The research branch is rightfully inserted in the initiative entitled “AI, decision making and the law”, one of the directions of action characterizing the multidisciplinary activity of the center, whose scientific committee includes Professor Roland Vogl, CodeX Executive Director, and Professor Oliver R. Goodenough, CodeX Affiliated Faculty. The landscape of the collaboration is in continuous expansion, open to various opportunities, on the scientific and on the applicative territories. It is a transversal union that is in continuous growth, exemplifying the mission of the center and opening to further perspectives.
